The San Francisco Marathon was sold by IMG in 2000 and the SF Chronicle became the major name sponsor (The Providian had previously been the name sponsor, but the Chronicle had always contributed).
This art was done digitally from a drawing by Phil - it is one of the only completely digital posters Phil has ever done. The artist ran the race five times and this was one of his fabourite spots - just after crossing the Golden Gate and starting to feel pretty comfortable with the race.
